Well, I’m a firm believer in using as much free stuff that I can as long as it does the job that I need for it to do and I’m always on the lookout for free resources that I can share.

But I’m also pretty skeptical when I see something new and have to check it out first.

Now, to get off topic for a sec, this got me to looking at the Google Analytics stats tracking.

Since I already use their free Sitemaps tools and Adsense, why not try the free Analytics tools?

Works pretty good, very customizable, good for setting up separate domains, separate pages, or groups of pages for tracking all kinds of variables.

The only thing I don’t like is that the stats only update once per day, sometime during the following day, and I haven’t pinpointed yet the time of day or time zone relating to this. But, once a day is pretty much par for free stats programs, and there are lots of goodies in there to play around with.

TIP: When you first add a website to track there is a “Check Status” button to check your script after you add it to the home page of your site. I have discovered that this doesn’t usually work immediately, best to log out and go back three or four hours later and then “Check Status” again.

Tip 2: When installing in a Wordpress blog the place to put your code is in the footer.php file of your theme, right above the /body tag.
