Get Linked from thousands of Classifieds for FREE with one click.

With the popularity of weblogs among search engine spiders, it’s pretty easy to get links back to your site.

Many blogs use “dofollow” tags on their comments. So by leaving a useful comment you can get a searchable link back to your site. Don’t just leave a comment which says “Visit my website!”. A nice comment about the content of the article or even adding a tip which the author has overlooked can get approved.

The best links would be from popular blogs which have some relation to your own content.

Even if the blog does not use “dofollow” links on their comments, you can still get some clicks back to your site if it’s a popular blog or article that you are commenting on.

An easy way to check for “nofollow” tags is to right click on the page and click “View Page Source”, then go down until you find the comments for the page and look for a tag that says “rel=nofollow” or similar.

Most blogs which are set up as “dofollow” will have a badge or text link which says “no follow free” or “your links could be nofollow free” or “Comment Luv enabled” or something, and these usually link back to software that you can add to your blogs to make your comments “nofollow free”!

Ridhuan left a question about “nofollow” tags here…

Thanks Ridhuan,
I’m not sure about the reasoning behind it, but most blogging software automatically inserts a “nofollow” tag in the comment link so that search engine spiders don’t follow the links included with the comment, and index the pages linked to.

The reasoning behind wanting to leave comments on blogs that use “dofollow” tags, (there really isn’t a “dofollow” tag, just an absence of a “nofollow” tag) is that the spiders will follow the link back to your website and index your pages.

Some “dofollow” software or plugins like “Comment Luv” will search for your latest blog post and link back to that page from your comment on the blog with “Comment Luv” installed.

It’s just another way to share links and get listed in search results.

Also, there are some good software tools out there to help you find the “dofollow” blogs. I like to use one called “G-lock blog finder”.

I wonder if and when Google will start ignoring blog comment links, submitting to directories is already pretty much useless.

Douglas,

Thanks for your insights about blogs that use “dofollow” tags vs those that don’t.

Although I am still relatively new to the whole blog scene and plan to start implementing my own blog this month, it seems that there is a little bit of a paradox.

Some blogs provide quality content and have a big following and lots of quality comments and do not allow comments with the “dofollow” tags.

Other blogs maybe at the other end of the spectrum, just starting out and allowing comments with the “dofollow” tags intact but possibly suffering from comment spam.

I’m curious, how do you reduce or eliminate the comment spam?

To Joe:

Thanks for the comment.
If you are using Wordpress blogging software, you can go to your control panel and under the Settings tab, click the Discussions tab and there are some options for moderating comments.

You can even enter a list of keywords to block so that what is usually considered to be spam doesn’t get posted. You can of course check and delete any of these which might be benificial to your particular niche.

Good question!
Thanks

Another quick way is to install the firefox plugin ‘No DoFollow’ and it will highlight nofollow links in red and dofollow in blue.

Thank you for this comment, atyafmser!
I’ve always heard that if you write like you speak and don’t try to use big words when they are not necessary, people will read your stuff.
I think I’m going to try and integrate the Google Translate thing into my blogs, like you have on yours.
As that technology improves, it may prove to be a useful SEO tool also.

Thanks again,
Douglas Wade

I think that as long as you do submit a comment that adds to the blog then it can be mutually beneficial. You’re right, though. Just saying “nice blog” to get a link is unethical.
