The reasoning behind wanting to leave comments on blogs that use "dofollow" tags, (there really isn't a "dofollow" tag, just an absence of a "nofollow" tag) is that the spiders will follow the link back to your website and index your pages. Some "dofollow" software or plugins like <a href="http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/commentluv/" rel="nofollow">"Comment Luv"</a> will search for your latest blog post and link back to that page from your comment on the blog with "Comment Luv" installed.
